I expect both teams to come out strong because they look to knock their division rival from the first game of the three-game series.
Both of these teams met up in a four-game show to start this off year in Milwaukee. Christian Yelich struck on a three-run homer in the first game to help lead the Brewers to a 5-4 win. Paul Goldschmidt had three home runs in the second game to assist the Cardinals bounce back with a 9-5 triumph. Travis Shaw and Mike Moustakas both had home runs in the third inning of the game as Milwaukee won 4-2. Christian Yelich struck a walk-off double in the last game of this series to give the Brewers a 5-4 win.
The next collection of this year was in Milwaukee back on April 15-17. Christian Yelich had two three-run homers for the Brewers since they took the first game 10-7. Yelich then came out in the second game and hit another three-run house run to assist power Milwaukee into an 8-4 win. Michael Wacha allowed only five hits and 2 runs through six innings as the Cardinals bounced back in the third match with a 6-3 victory.
The next and most recent series shifted into St. Louis on April 22-24. The Cardinals turned into a seven-run seventh inning into a 13-5 win at the first game of the set. Paul DeJong struck on the go-ahead home run in the next game as St. Louis won 4-3. Marcell Ozuna hit a three-run homer in the third match as Adam Wainwright pitched six innings and only allowed four hits and a single run. The Cardinals swept the series with a 5-2 triumph.
The Brewers and the Cardinals have gone 5-5 against each other thus far this season. These two teams haven’t met up as late April though and a great deal has changed for the two teams since then. These two teams still played a lot of close games early in the season and I would not expect anything else on Monday night’s devotion.
Christian Yelich has continued to direct this Brewers team this year. Yelich has earned 141 hits, 41 home runs, 89 RBI’s along with an OPS of all 1.121 this year. Up 119 hits have been put by mike Moustakas, and 71 RBI’s run. Lorenzo Cain has 113 hits and 40 RBI’s, while Ryan Braun includes 106 strikes and 18 homers. Yasmani Grandal has 99 strikes, 20 home runs and 61 RBI’s. Orlando Arcia, Eric Thames, along with Keston Hiura all have double-digit house runs as well.
Paul Goldschmidt has long had a strong season up to now, putting up 119 strikes, 28 home runs and 68 RBI’s. Paul DeJong has earned 110 hits, 21 homers and 56 RBI’s. Kolten Wong includes 104 hits and 44 RBI’s with 9 home runs. Marcell Ozuna includes 88 strikes, 22 home runs and 67 RBI’s, although Dexter Fowler has got 87 strikes and 14 homers. Matt Carpenter has 71 hits and 11 homers.
St. Louis includes a strong hitting lineup, however they aren’t quite on the level of the Brewers. Milwaukee has among the greatest hitters in Yelich and has a multitude of other players that could go off onto you. The Cardinals have a solid lineup, however they’ll require their pitcher to step up to try and slow down the Brewers offense on Monday night.
Zach Davies will begin on the mound for Milwaukee on Monday night. Davies has an 8-5 record during his 23 starts this season. He has an ERA of 3.74 and a WHIP of 1.394. Davies last start came from the Chicago Cubs on August 2, in which he allowed seven hits and four runs through four innings. His last three starts have been demanding ones, but he’ll look to bounce back against St. Louis.
Dakota Hudson will begin for the Cardinals in Monday’s tilt. Hudson has got a 3.82 ERA and a WHIP of all 1.555 through 25 games this year. In these 25 games, he’s set a list of 11-6 for St. Louis. Hudson’s last start came from the Kansas City Royals, in which he allowed five hits and no runs through six innings.
These two pitchers match up pretty well with each other. Hudson has an overall better record, and it has played much better as of late, but Davies has the greater ERA and WHIP. Davies has three rough begins in a row, but I would watch for him to eventually break from this small slump with this large divisional game on the line.
The Brewers and the Cardinals have gone 5-5 against each other this year, however, St. Louis is currently 3-0 at home against Milwaukee. I feel that the Brewers have a good chance to make their first win in St. Louis on Monday night. Milwaukee has a powerful hitting lineup and that I believe with the extra days of rest for Davies, he will come out strong on Monday.
