Boston Red Sox
2019 win complete over/under: 95.5
2018 win total: 108
The reigning World Series champs ran roughshod on the rest of the American League last year and once more at the World Series in their five-game triumph over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Free agent nearer Craig Kimbrel isn’t expected back, but Boston largely brings back an identical group, trade deadline additions included, to the one that basically went wire-to-wire as the best team in baseball 2018. I don’t find a 13-win decline for those champs, so give me the over.
Prediction: RED SOX — OVER 95.5 (-125)
New York Yankees Logo
New York Yankees
2019 win complete over/under: 95.5
2018 win complete: 100
The Yankees’ over/under win total is much more aligned to last year’s success, yet this time I expect the Yankees to provide the Red Sox a considerably stiffer streak for AL East supremacy.
They added James Paxton as a co-ace supporting Luis Severino and they re-upped deadline acquisition J.A. Happ after an 11-start run of success from the Yankees’ rotation.
All of a sudden, the Yankees have a fearful starting rotation, a thunderous lineup, and a lights-out bullpen. I don’t have any difficulties with the over here.
Prediction: YANKEES — OVER 95.5 (-125)
Toronto Blue Jays Logo
Toronto Blue Jays
2019 win total over/under: 76.5
2018 win complete: 73
The Blue Jays suffered an extremely unsatisfactory season in 2018, but they should enjoy better fortunes in 2019, at least from a health perspective.
The two Marcus Stroman and Aaron Sanchez — Toronto’s best two pitchers — missed significant time last year and were extremely unproductive while on the bracket as a result. With these two anticipated to enjoy healthier seasons, the Blue Jays will recover some wins lost from last season.
Add in the inevitable advertising of top prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr. along with bats sporting potent potential and the Blue Jays need to be able to get much nearer to the .500 mark.
Prediction: BLUE JAYS — OVER 76.5 (+115)
Tampa Bay Rays Logo
Tampa Bay Rays
2019 win total over/under: 84.5
2018 win complete: 90
The Rays were one of the biggest surprises in baseball last year when they won 90 games while fighting the titanic Red Sox and Yankees in the AL East all season long.
I really don’t expect quite the same level of success this time around for a team that only had three legitimate members to their turning. Their”opener” plan was largely successful, but Kevin Cash better hope his previously unknown relief corps can replicate their success from last season.
The Rays are constantly sneaky; nevertheless, I think that they fall nearer to the .500 mark this season round.
