John Fox believes Bears had NFL’s worst offseason

One coach thinks they had the offseason in the total NFL, although the Chicago Bears won their first division title since 2010.
John Fox, who coached the Bears to three last-place finishes from 2015-2017, was requested on ESPN’s NFL Live on Monday which team had the worst offseason. His decision was his club.
“I think when you’re going to play defense, you’re going to lean on takeaways to aid a young crime, and you don’t have a kicker, a reliable kicker, which you’re going to need those points from after some of those turnovers,” Fox said, via the Chicago Sun-Times. “I feel the kicking question is really big right now in Chicago. And that I think that might be a problem for them from the season.”

It’s fine for Fox to have his own opinion on the Bears, even though others disagree. After all, a TV network employed him to give his view. The reasoning of the ex-coach is the part that is interesting.
Bears fans will point out that it was beneath Fox’s watch that the group cut Robbie Gould, Chicago’s all-time pioneer in points, until the 2016 season. It’s true that Gould had struggled the prior few seasons, but Fox and the rest of the brass weren’t willing to give the veteran the benefit of the doubt. Ever since then the Bears’ kicking position has been a turnstile of calamity. This offseason Chicago has pined for Gould’s yield.
In Fox’s last season, Chicago used Connor Barth three kickers, Cairo Santos and Mike Nugent. Before the double-doink ultimately finished his struggles in 15, cody Parkey lasted only 1 year. Now the Bears are down to Eddy Pi??eiro 2 kickers and Elliott Fry, as training camp approaches.
There are plenty of things to question about the Bears with this offseason, including losing defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, swapping in Ha Ha Clinton-Dix for Adrian Amos, how Mitchell Trubisky will enhance in Year two under Matt Nagy, also, naturally, the kicker conundrum. The former coach singling out the kicker situation is intriguing, especially at a position that may be ironed out on the fly. Fox’s remarks will help enhance the stress under if the Bears land to a booter which kicker will be.
