The Seattle Mariners may take advantage on Wednesday, but they have barely broken even — although charlie Morton has pitched well for the Tampa Bay Rays.
Charlie Morton is roughly as good as pitchers get. The W was made by him for the Houston Astros in Game 7 of their 2017 World Series, then made the All-Star team. There is a good opportunity Morton will be back at the playoffs this season, but along with his new team: the Tampa Bay Rays (73-53, minus-3.02 units), that hold the closing American League Wild Card berth at once again.
Even the Seattle Mariners (53-73, minus-12.93 components ) have not been to the playoffs as the turn of this millennium. But they might be the appropriate MLB pick for Wednesday’s matchup (1:10 p.m. ET, MLBN) together with the Rays, who’ve just opened –285 home faves having a total of 8.5. It is based on part whom Seattle will be sending contrary Morton into the mound.

The fine people at FiveThirtyEight didn’t factor in a starter for the M, but it looks like Wade LeBlanc (5.58 FIP) might find the nod — or they’ll use an opener in front of them as they have done in the majority of his appearances that year. LeBlanc was struggling, that accounts for the gap between the projections and the actual MLB chances we’d be interested in carrying the Mariners as +234 underdogs. Something closer to +275 would be more appropriate when we wanted to commit a significant amount.
Morton (2.67 FIP) may be a workable Cy Young candidate, however Rays fans haven’t made much money off this season. He has up 0.59 units onto a team record of 16-10 (Beneath 14-11-1), even though Tampa owning one of the best bullpens in the group. In his final start on Friday, Morton allowed zero runs and struck out 10 Detroit Tigers over seven innings, and the Rays lost 2-0 as –345 house faves.
