Karl Burke is convinced Laurens is in peak condition for its defence of her crown at the Coolmore”Fastnet Rock” Matron Stakes.
The four-year-old was a surprise winner of this Leopardstown Group One time if she discovered a shock defeat on Jessica Harrington filly Alpha Centauri.
Twelve months on, Laurens travels to Ireland with claimed her victory from the Prix Rothschild at Deauville on her penultimate start before being touched off with colt Shine So Bright at a Group Two.
Burke stated:”She appears in excellent form. She had a tiny breeze on Thursday morning until she left to catch the ferry to Ireland, also that I could not have been more happy .
“Last year she moved having run over a mile and a half at the Yorkshire Oaks. We believed she was quick enough and it was proven by her on the day. We know we’re fast 8, this year.
“She has a fantastic draw. We will just do our thing and focus on ourselves, instead of concern yourself with what anyone else is doing, although it will be interesting to learn Aidan O’Brien’s four horses have been ridden.
“She’s in amazing form, and if she generates her A-game she is the one that they all have to beat.”
The O’Brien quartet is led by English and Irish 1000 Guineas heroine Hermosa.
A month she lines up with some point to prove after tracking house of nine runners at the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood.
“Goodwood was a small funny race – Frankie (Dettori) was riding an mile-and-a-half horse (Mehdaayih), and they went quick,” said O’Brien.
“It doesn’t mean that we will not return into a mile and a quarter at some point, but we will return to a mile in Leopardstown.
“We probably did not learn a great deal at Goodwood, together with the speed and the track. It ended up being a small non-event really.”
Hermosa is connected Happen, by companions I Can Fly and Wonderful.
Another horse coming back in trip is that the Joseph O’Brien-trained Iridessa.
The daughter of Ruler was an impressive winner of the Pretty Polly Stakes over a mile and a quarter in June, but never threatened to land a blow over a mile and a half in the Yorkshire Oaks the month.
“She looks in good shape. It is a really good race, but we are hoping for a good run,” said the coach.
The area is performed by the Skitter Scatter of John Oxx.
A top-class offender for Patrick Prendergast final year, the Scat Daddy filly defeated in the 1000 Guineas but was then discovered to be suffering from a muscular injury.
She made her come back from a close four-month lack in the Group Three Fairy Bridge Stakes at Tipperary a couple of weeks back and shaped with far more encouragement – going down by only half a length.
“We were content with her moving into the Guineas, but she took a terrible step through the race and had a tear at a hamstring,” said Oxx.
“It’s made the entire year hard for her. She didn’t do her first trot until Royal Ascot’s Saturday and needed to walk for seven months later.
“We were aiming for the Matron all along. But she had a prep raceand we had very little time to get her prepared to the Fairy Bridge.
“We’re pleased to receive her . She had a fantastic run for both months prior to that was fit enough for a race, but she was not clearly at peak fitness.”
