Gamblers Knew The Undertaker Would Lose At WrestleMania 30

WrestleMania is a huge event, providing excitement for a massive boost for the local economy and fans. And to get some gamblers, WWE’s biggest event of this year is also a chance to get rich.
Online sportsbook Bovada was taking bets at the night’s matches, and there was seemingly plenty of activity because the money lines were going during the week. That is not to say betting on pro wrestling is a good idea. In fact, it seems pretty foolish to bet on matches which have scripted endings, especially because someone had to write that script.
I’ve previously heard that wrestling-related gambling lines have a propensity to swing hard before the games begin because that’s when people inside the promotion, who understand the projected outcome of each game, would create their bets. I really don’t have any hard evidence of that happening Sunday night, however I do know that at least some gamblers predicted among the most surprising results in recent memory, and today they’re laughing their way into the bank.
Many fans – myself included – thought the closest thing to a sure bet is Undertaker beating Brock Lesnar and extending his WrestleMania winning streak to 22-0. Gamblers seemed to concur with the sentiment.
Undertaker opened -3000; in other words, you’d need to wager $3,000 only to win $100 in an Undertaker success. That line later moved into -4000, and by Saturday day was -5000. Clearly nobody was expecting a reduction to Lesnar, and Bovada wasn’t making it simple for bettors to win cash off the”sure thing.”
But by 6:15 Sunday night? The Undertaker cash line had surged the way. The only rationale is that Bovada needed a whole lot of action going the way of Lesnar. The line would float back into -3000 to -2500, then by 6:30 at 6:50.
