As he sets his sights on winning a name that is individual since 2014 adrian Lewis is feeling refreshed following his summer break.
The world champion has suffered a combined 2019 far, as he targets a victory in the Alexandra Palace later this season, but he is confident of recapturing his shape at the ideal time.
The mercurial Stoke-on-Trent star won his PDC ranking title in March since April 2017 , beating Raymond van Barneveld to acquire a Players Championship occasion in Barnsley.
However,’Jackpot’ has been not able to build on that achievement and he’s failed to proceed beyond the semi-finals of any PDC event that is ranking .
“I think I’ve had an up and down year,” Lewis told Sky Sports.
“I won a Pro Tour, I have made a couple semi’s and finals but as a whole it can be better, I’ve only got to keep working at it really.
“This is the time where you want to start hitting top form today, this really is the time you have to work extremely hard in building up to the World Championships, there’s that lots of TV tournaments now coming up.”
His performances in events have been underwhelming, although Lewis has shown glimpses of the brilliant best this period.
He has failed to enroll a lone success in a major TV event this year, enduring opening round exits at UK Open, the Experts and World Matchplay against Peter Wright, Jamie Lewis and Glen Durrant .
The upcoming tournament online calendar is the World Grand Prix in Dublin, a tournament because reaching the last in 34, in which Lewis hasn’t progressed beyond the last eight of October.
Since he bids to end his drought, with a series of tournaments on the horizon, the world winner is convinced of incorporating another major title to his haul and climbing back up the ranks.
“My target is merely to jump as large as I can in the rankings really,” the former Premier League superstar said.
“I am sitting at number 15 now, I’m not actually defending anything from now before the World Championship, so keep moving up today.
“I will see if I could pinch a little TV championship there or here, ideally the Worlds. You must get yourself right for the Worlds.
“If you can’t get yourself for you shouldn’t be playing. That’s the biggest one the Worlds, second is the World Matchplay and then you’d have to say the Premier League I think.”
Lewis was defending #30,000 in prize money in the Matchplay by virtue of hitting the semi-finals from 2017 and also his defeat to Durrant saw him relinquish his spot in the planet’s best 16 – a place he has since recovered.
“Obviously I had been defending the semi-final of this World Matchplay that knocked me back, losing to Glen [Durrant] at the first round,” that the 34-year-old added.
“This was a tough draw but they’re all hard draws. It depends on or even you don’t win in the event you turn up then you have got an excellent chance.
“I feel the averages are pretty similar to that which they’ve been around but the odd game folks are knocking in 110 and 115’s. That’s occurring on a regular basis today.”
While some of the PDC’s main titles competed Down Under about the World Series circuit’Jackpot’ enjoyed some time away from the game and he has returned feeling refreshed.
Lewis, who marked his return to action using a third round defeat to Cameron Menzies in past weekend Darts Championship, considers it is essential to obtain the perfect work-life balance.
“Obviously all of the boys were over at the World Series where I just took five months off playing,” he explained.
“I had only had two hours clinic before a weekend, however, this is where I start building up today.
“It is important to spend time with your family. You have got to find the ideal balance. If it’s all darts, you’ll then just burn out.
“I believe after that break everybody wants to return to it and find a little normality back to your own life.”
It is not long to wait till darts goes back on Sky Sports, the World Grand Prix gets underway on Sunday, October 6 at Dublin’s Citywest Arena October 12 and seven days of policy continues until the closing on Saturday.
