Rafael Nadal won his Grand Slam title after holding Russian Daniil Medvedev fightback in one of the US Open finals.
Spain’s Nadal, 33, won 7-5 6-3 5-7 4-6 6-4 from the fifth seed.
Nadal, seeded second, was cruising in two places and a break up, just for Medvedev to force a decider.
However, Nadal ceased his momentum to clinch a success in four hours and 51 minutes.

“It’s been among the most emotional nights in my tennis career,” Nadal said. “It has been an amazing final. It’s been a crazy game.”

Medvedev trudged around the internet to congratulate his rival, who looked on the brink of tears when shooting acclaim, as he coated his face.
“I only want to congratulate Rafa, a 19th Grand Slam title is something incredible, bizarre,” Medvedev said.
Those lucky enough to be watching among a 24,000 that was near capacity crowd were left open-mouthed in what they watched, with the majority jumping with their feet and celebrating after every point, helping produce an atmosphere on a Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Because he threatened to complete an outstanding comeback medvedev was booed by the audience earlier in the tournament, yet heard his name chanted by many.
Ultimately it was too late as he was unable to develop into the world number one Novak Djokovic of Serbia and the first person outside Nadal, Federer to claim among the most important prizes of the sport because the victory of Stan Wawrinka here.
Djokovic, Federer and nadal have won the Previous 12 Grand Slams following the Spaniard raised the trophy to get a time at New York.
Now Nadal gets the opportunity to draw level with Federer, that was nine titles better off than his competition in 2007, at the Australian Open in January.
