Logician heads 11 possible St Leger contenders

The unbeaten Logician spearheads 11 remaining contenders with the weekend William Hill St Leger.
John Gosden’s Sky Bet Great Voltigeur winner will bid to provide his trainer a victory from the oldest Classic on Town Moor on Saturday and he’s a hot favorite to do this following a win at York’s Ebor meeting.
Gosden:”He has been in amazing shape since York. He’s a character and he has a large loping stride. I believed then (back in May) this might be a Leger horse.
“He’s come quite a distance in a short time. The long straight in Doncaster needs to suit him nicely.
“But it will not only be Aidan and also our one horse, but there are other horses in drama and I have mentioned one that won in Goodwood (Sir Ron Priestly). It’s more thickness to the area than individuals are making out.”
There are 10 runners and Aidan O’Brien – that has trained six Leger winners in the past including the two variants – is accountable for six of these.
Leading the Ballydoyle package is like shooting his chance in 25, Investec Derby Sir Dragonet, while Lonsdale Cup third Il Paradiso looks.
Sir Dragonet was beaten below a span at Epsom prior to returning to the track to finish third at the Royal Whip Stakes at the Curragh.
O’Brien explained:”We’re very pleased with him. He had a break following the Derby and then the plan was supposed to visit the Curragh and then maybe we would have a look at the Arc after that run.
“But today Japan and Magical are there and things are changing all the time.
“The William Hill St Leger is an essential and respected race and we felt like there was a good chance he would find that excursion.
“He was only prepared to begin in the Curragh and that he got a little bit tired he was competent to do as I was being very careful and gentle .
“It was also the first time he had run over that excursion. He’d always been over a mile and a halfdozen. He’s not short of class and he is not short of speed so it will be interesting.”
Il Paradiso is to join at the last field. The three-year-old looked to be running a big race in the Lonsdale Cup before being run out of the end by two stayers in Dee Ex Bee and Stradivarius.
O’Brien said:”He remains very well and that is why we conducted him at York. We thought that he was worth taking a shot and he ran a very respectable race.
“It was a great run for a three-year-old. He looks like a horse that will get the Gold Cup excursion in time has plenty of endurance.
“However, I think he’ll be pleased enough dropping to this trip, he does not mind being ridden ahead and we’ll ride him as if we’re sure he remains”
The O’Brien team is performed Western Australia, Norway, South Pacific and by Barbados.
Whilst Middleham handler Mark Johnston contains two candidates in the six-day point in Nayef Road and Sir Ron Priestley andrew Balding’s Royal Ascot enthusiast Dashing Willoughby will take his chance.
When last seen the list of potential runners is completed from the Martyn Meade-trained Technician at Newbury.
