Dale Earnhardt Jr. still has sore back but plans on racing at Darlington

(CNN) — Dale Earnhardt Jr. is just largely retired, so he does not intend to miss out driving at one of his favorite tracks when NASCAR goes to Darlington Raceway in South Carolina next week.
Earnhardt, who had been in a plane crash a week together with his wife, daughter and two pilots, said he’s still hurting from the mess but plans to take the wheel of an auto in the Xfinity Series on August 31.
“My lower back is bruised up real bad. A lot of swelling and I just need this to go down along with the pain to flake out,” he also tweeted. “I have been handling the region daily solely to get well to race.”
Earnhardt retired from full-time racing but he has raced after since then year at an Xfinity race in Richmond. Earnhardt is currently a television analyst for NBC and a team owner.
On Monday, near where his plane crashed after a hard landing after bypassing the races in Bristol, Tennessee, Earnhardt thanked his pilots, emergency responders and hospital employees.
“We’re truly blessed that all on board escaped without any serious injuries, such as our daughter, both pilots and our dog Gus,” Earnhardt added.
Racing fans are looking forward to the one on-track appearance this year of Earnhardt. He holds the record for winning 15 years in a row to the most popular driver award of the circuit.
