Scotland ahead David Denton has been made to retire on the advice of physicians.
The 29-year-old has been advised to quit after a concussion he sustained playing Leicester Tigers in October.
“Obviously, it’s devastating my rugby career is ending,” Denton told the Scottish Rugby Union site.
Scotland trainer Gregor Townsend said:”We’re going to miss with Scotland.”
Zimbabwe-born Denton was restricted 42 times for Scotland, which makes the transfer to Edinburgh at 2010 before spells at Worcester and Bath Warriors prior this past year.
He had not played since suffering the injury from Northampton 11 weeks ago.
“My response at the time my neurologist told me it was no longer a great idea to play with rugby to be fair was a little relief,” said Denton.
“This had been building up inside of me for four to five months.
“I understood there was a very strong possibility this moment [needing to retire] was coming.
“By the time I got to this, I was through all the highs and lows, so I was prepared for this.”
Scotland head coach Townsend stated it”seems to be the perfect choice to retire”.
He said:”We were hoping taking some time from the game would mean he’d be available for choice within our World Cup training group and if that didn’t happen, we were hopeful he’d be back for next season, but again that’s not occurred.”
David Warner endured a torturous Ashes while Steve Smith won following the scandal over English audiences.
