Lukasz Fabianski is very likely to be outside for three or more months states West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini.
Even the goalkeeper suffered the harm on Saturday in the 2-2 Premier League draw with Bournemouth of West Ham.
“Obviously it’s a major blow because Lukasz was performing such as, for me personally, most likely one of the greatest goalkeepers of the Premier League,” Hammers manager Pellegrini explained.
“The medical staff will decide properly tomorrow or today if he’ll have surgery on his muscle or when he will recover without surgery, but I believe in both instances anything less than three months will be hard for Lucasz to return.”
Pellegrini is confident Roberto Jimenez will probably be a substitute in Fabianski’s absence, and says he will not be seeking to grow his options whether the Pole recovers.
“Absolutely convinced because Roberto is a goalkeeper who has had a fantastic career, not just in Spain – which he played in Portugal, Greece, and also for different teams in Spain. We brought him here because we understand him we hope ,” said Pellegrini.
“We also brought in David Martin, another goalkeeper with experience in the league for now, we are going to remain the same”
Because dropping to Manchester City on the opening weekend, and on Saturday sponsor Crystal Palace, live on Sky Sports, west Ham are unbeaten in the Premier League.
The Hammers are fifth in the league also he insists it’s crucial to believe they could maintain their status while Pellegrini has urged his players to take things one match at one time.
“I always believe,” said Pellegrini. “You must have a mentality that reflects that you are at least going to attempt to do it after that you will see if you arrive or maybe not.
“In the way we are playing I believe we are improving a great deal, and that is one of the reasons why people believe we can take action.
“Seeing the team playing the way we did from Bournemouth – we went away and from the first minute we attempted to win the game.”
