Burnley boss Sean Dyche is happy to give Danny Drinkwater a second chance after the midfielder has been injured in an incident outside a nightclub.
Even the on-loan Chelsea midfielder suffered a foot problem that’s set to rule him out for a variety of weeks and was pictured with injuries.
Dyche is known as a director who values professionalism tremendously but, openly, he declined to criticise Drinkwater, stating:”[Footballers] are now human beings, they’ve private lives, which occasionally are not personal, obviously. And they get in scratches.
“He is certainly old enough and wise enough to understand you do whatever you can to not get in scrapes, but occasionally it happens.
“We’ve been large over our time here – you can not just discuss development when it is great news, you also must work with players if things are not quite as good.
“It’s been that sort of situation, have a chat with him and say, what happened first of all, what was the situation that contributed into it. OK, let us go away from this where to do we proceed from here. I think that is where we are at.”
Dyche declined to show whether Burnley have punished Drinkwater, stating:”Just talked to himthe remainder of it’s private.”
The 29-year-old produced his Clarets debut by Sunderland in the Carabao Cup defeat having missed the start of the year after being frozen out of the picture at Chelsea to build up his fitness.
Dyche added:”He is a player that I’d worked together at Watford. I think I understand a small bit about what he’s around, he has had a lot occur since then of course, a lot of successes in his career, so that I believe we would like to return to this.
“This is merely a bump in the situation. We want to make sure that he gets right back to being completely match, playing well, the eye of the tiger it takes to be a leading player.”
Talking on the harm sustained by Drinkwater, Dyche said:”That bit’s not ideal. It’s a part and parcel of the episode. It is not severe but it’s going to be a few months and getting a different game in to catch up.
“If you take a participant in, he becomes part of us. So we will work with Danny and try to help him and, importantly, he has to get himself fit”
