Gareth Bale wants his Wales team-mates to”chip in and help the team”, according to forwards Tom Lawrence.
Following many months of uncertainty over his future, Bale stopped a drought stretching back on March 16 with a brace in Real Madrid’s 2-2 La Liga draw on Sunday, though Wales’ talisman was sent off in stoppage time.
The 30-year-old will place his team commitments on pause as he looks to direct Wales to Euro 2020, however, they trail leaders Hungary by six things in Group E and are just three adrift of both Croatia and Slovakia.
Ryan Giggs was boosted by the fact that Bale, Daniel James and Harry Wilson have been one of the goals in club level this year and Lawrence believes his team-mates will need to be more supportive of Bale.
Lawrence explained:”We can’t leave it down to Gareth himself, additional gamers have got to chip in and help the group.
“There is some people pushing to get a beginning on Friday and we will all be looking forward to getting on the pitch.
“If he (Bale) is playing he is among the world’s greatest. Every time that he can get on the pitch to Wales is a bonus.
“It always helps when you’re playing games. When you’re not match-fit it’s never easy to come and play games.”
Lawrence has additional motivation to achieve next year’s contest because he missed out at Euro 2016 when Wales attained the semi-finals in France and qualified for their first tournament.
Ligaments tore having been a part of the training squad in Portugal.
He said”It was a difficult time. You’re looking forward to going to the Euros and for that to be stopped by an injury is not nice.
“I would really like to play at a significant tournament. It was my biggest learning curve in dealing with this and overlooking the Euros.
“Since then I have come on a very long way. It would be wonderful to get in there again.”
Wales face Azerbaijan in their second Euro 2020 qualifier on Friday prior to a friendly against Belarus in Cardiff three days live on Sky Sports Premier League.
