The Chicago Cubs Seem to get closer into the St. Louis Cardinals with a win and some help from the Pirates in Pittsburgh.
The Pirates did their part with a 9-4 win over the NL Central Cardinals. However, the Cubs failed to draw closer due to some reduction to the Brewers. Then they took a 1-0 lead in the 3rd and after that things turned to mush in a rush.
The Brewers cruised to a 7-1 win Friday night at Miller Park and reacted with 4 runs. With the loss, the Diamondbacks managed to inch closer at the hunt. The Cubs have a 2.5-game advantage on the Diamondbacks going into today. Only the fact that we are speaking about the Diamondbacks at a postseason race is really a win for them.
So far as the Brewers are involved, they still have an outside shot at going to the postseason. So there’s something to play for this particular month in the moment, their season is not dead yet. The Brewers are connected with the Mets and Phillies who are four matches of their final wildcard. The biggest season that bunch must go to the Phillies. They were the only team that spent $330-million dollars for one participant in the offseason.
Even the Cubs missing out on the postseason would be a disappointing season. They have too much talent on board not to at least go to the Wild Card Game. It’ll be a long offseason for the Cubs if they throw this away, however they control their own fate with a 2.5-game lead.
Yu Darvish pitching down the stretch may help contribute to that. Darvish has got the Cubs a increase recently and seeing him struggle down the stretch would be disastrous. Darvish is expected to get the start Saturday. Head under for our free Cubs vs. Brewers pick.
