Gary Kirsten will hold discussions over the role of England head coach with ECB director of cricket Ashley Giles on Wednesday, Sky Sports News knows.
Kirsten is the leading candidate to replace Trevor Bayliss, who stepped down following the Ashes series against Australia.
Sky Sports News knows the interview process is ongoing and Giles is meeting other hopefuls.
The 51-year-old has previous experience of training, having appreciated spells in charge of India and South Africa earlier in his profession.
Giles has stated his preference as head coach for the Englishman, with Chris Silverwood – that the present fast bowling coach – regarded another front-runner due to his encounter at Essex.
The Alec Stewart of surrey has been linked with the role, as has Ireland coach Graham Ford and England’s batting coach Graham Thorpe.
Giles will hope to create a new head coach in time for England’s tour of New Zealand, that starts on November 1 with a T20 global in Christchurch.
