BMW PGA: Rich Beem surprised to see only three big-name Americans at Wentworth

Tony Finau, Patrick Reed and Billy Horschel will be the three big American titles featuring in the week’s BMW PGA Championship, but in case more of their compatriots have made the trip?
The Wentworth showpiece moving to September is more ideal for people on the PGA Tour wishing to sample some big-tournament atmosphere at the European Tour, so Rich Beem is amazed that so few made the journey…
It is wonderful to find the men experiencing the BMW PGA to be honest and coming , I expected to find a few more here.
Kevin Kisner took up European Tour membership, Xander Schauffele played at the Porsche European Open therefore they would not need to play , especially given the new date from the schedule of the tournament it is somewhat strange.
To have Patrick Reed, only Tony Finau and Billy Horschel from the big-name PGA Tour celebrities here, to me that seems somewhat weak.
There are a number of European players who play on the PGA Tour compared to the European Union that are in Wentworth, but I’m surprised there are not more Americans, to be honest.
Tony gets the need to play out of the US. He said in his press conference earlier that to be a truly world-class player, you need to play. It’s wonderful to watch him come from their’comfort zone’ of the PGA Tour and expand his horizons, and he’ll be a much better player for it.
Billy Horschel is currently now making his first appearance , and I think he’s been a bit surprised by the scale of this occasion. He described that tournament as with a”significant feel” about it, also it is excellent to hear him say that.
We are going to have to wait and see, although maybe those comments will attract more of the compatriots to come over in the future. Although some might want to escape this heat the prospect of travelling a long way to perform in cooler conditions at another environment will not appeal to everyone!
However, Billy is right about the feel about this area. I’ve played with it earlier in May, but being in the fall it seemingly has a different setting, and the potency of the area this week is excellent.
It’s tough to tell Tony, Patrick and Billy can receive with this week. Patrick’s probably a step above the other two, but all three are players that have had success.
Tony’s enormous span off the tee is a huge advantage for him on the West Course, but from a perspective that is ball-striking , then Billy Horschel includes a really good chance.
