Williams extend Mercedes engine partnership to 2025 at least

Williams will utilize Mercedes motors until 2025 at least in Formula 1.
The group, already dedicated to Mercedes for next year, have signed a new agreement for the next five years.
Because finishing third in 2014 and 2015, williams have declined, their first two seasons along with Mercedes later motors came into F1.
They are on course this year and ended last in 2018, however they expect fortunes will be revived by a department restructure.
Williams deputy team chief Claire Williams said:”Mercedes has been among the game’s most successful engine providers and we think they’ll continue to have a very competitive engine bundle going forward.
“Within our time together with them they’ve become a real friend of the group.”
New rules intended for 2021 are targeted at making the grid more competitive. A funding cap has been agreed, although closer racing to be allowed by new rules happen to be finalised before teams to agreeing somewhat more equitable revenue split, and the bosses of the sport move on.
“Williams is one of the most popular manufacturers in F1,” said Mercedes motorsport manager Toto Wolff.
“They’ve been through some tough times recently but that’s just served to demonstrate their durability and strength of character as they battle right back to where they belong to the grid.
“I am certain that the outlook for independent teams is glowing under the financial regulations that’ll be released from 2021 and we are thrilled to continue our partnership with Williams to that new age of our game.”
The poor on-track functionality from a group which dominated enormous swathes of the 1980s and 1990s has struck on the group financially. This weekthey posted a loss of 16.8m to the initial six months of this year, which has been attributed to reduced prize money and the loss of a sponsorship income.
Chief executive Mike O’Driscoll stated:”Though we continue to confront challenges in a very dynamic environment, we consider the vast majority of the impact on EBITDA [earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation, and amortisation] to the entire year has already been recorded in these interim outcomes.
“We continue to believe we are well placed to react to the challenges with world-class facilities plus a robust and talented organisation”
On the motorist, Williams possess a contract to continue into next year.
They have not yet decided on another driver, using book driver Nicolas Latifi and incumbent Robert Kubica equally in with a possibility of the chair.
