Who goes where?
That question will be answered during Sunday when celebrities and players understand where – and really if – they’ll be playing in The Hundred summer.
England Test players and icons have been allocated, meaning businesses are well-stocked in certain regions but short while.
Bearing that in mind, we examine what each side will look to do in the early rounds…
Already allocated: Joe Root (batsman), Alex Hales (opener), Harry Gurney (left-arm seamer)
Immediate needs: Quick bowler, batting depth
The Rockets could literally go in any way with the No 1 overall pick. Their haul far is the nicely-balanced trio of Root, Hales and Gurney.
Of those six players available with the book price set of #125,000, you would imagine that David Warner, Kagiso Rabada and Chris Gayle are on top of the wish list.
Will they include their ranks that are bowling and Rabada’s searing pace? Or will they look the explosive hitting with Hales at the top of the purchase Gayle or Warner?
Or will they spring a draft-day surprise and opt for any number of lesser-priced superstars, like Andre Russell, Rashid Khan or Kane Williamson together with the first choice?
Already allocated: Jofra Archer (fast bowler), Chris Jordan (fast bowler), James Vince (opener)
Immediate needs: spinner, Batting thickness, all-rounder
The Brave possess the blistering rate of Archer and Jordan in their attack and therefore strengthening the batting will certainly be their first port of call on Sunday.
You would imagine Gayle would be the selection, adding into the Caribbean flair which is going to be on display on the sun south shore next summer, but they’d also gladly accept Warner if it had been him that dropped in their lap.
Again, like the Rockets, they might spring a surprise by snapping up Russell or Rashid ancient, the latter having loved a terrific two-year T20 spell a small way west down the shore with Sussex.
Instead, they might appear to kill two birds with one stone and fill their all-rounder along with spinner needs with Shakib Al Hasan.
Already allocated: Ben Stokes (all-rounder), Adil Rashid (spinner), David Willey (left-arm seamer)
Immediate demands: wicketkeeper, Opener, Speedy bowler
You can’t ever have too many all-rounders in your group but, with already signed Stokes, at the cost of local Yorkshire lads Root and Jonny Bairstow, you would envision the Supercharges will address other areas of the group initially.
Should one be available, both Gayle or Warner would be gladly welcomed. But the Superchargers might want Rabada to fall into them – look to pair him with fellow Protea Quinton Kock in a latter round.
That opener requirement of theirs wouldn’t only fill, but also cover the wicketkeeper vacancy.
Rashid’s existence on the team means the Superchargers do not need to put in a spinner until searching for some depth in the place in latter rounds, whilst Willey ticks the’left-arm variation’ box and is also an opening alternative.
Already allocated: Jonny Bairstow (opener), Tom Banton (opener), Colin Ingram (batsman)
Immediate demands: spinner, Fast-bowler, all-rounder
The Fire have been already top-heavy at the peak of the order and we have got to the draft!
Bairstow and also Banton figure to be a volatile opening set – both may keep wicket – and Ingram has been a devastating six-hitter from the Blast in the last few decades, playing the exact same Sophia Gardens surface.
It surely provides the staff clarity of thought on Sunday, together with adding to their bowling positions the first priority; Rabada, Lasith Malinga or even Mitchell Starc – if still on the board following the initial few picks – surely have to be snapped .
If not, all-rounders Russell or Dwayne Bravo could be options, or even seamers Trent Boult or Mohammad Amir. While there’s an argument to select a spinner, England often play just a single when in Cardiff, due to the little boundaries directly, so that this demand is treated at a later round.
Already allocated: Sam Curran (all-rounder), Jason Roy (opener), Tom Curran (seam bowler)
Immediate demands: Batting depth, spinner, wicketkeeper
This really is where it starts getting tricky. Who of the six players using the highest reserve price of 125,000 will still be available when we get to the Invincibles and the No 5 pick?
Could you be Steve Smith? A marginally less appealing T20 potential, however, arguably the world’s greatest Test batsman, that has won within the English crowds who booed him for so much of this summertime.
Smith was awarded an ovation in The Oval after his 774 Ashes runs in a shocking 110.57 average, and it’s certainly possible he could be calling the area his house next season.
Smith could slot in nicely at No 3 after the explosive hitting of Roy in the peak of the order and might even be a contentious choice as captain. If the Invincibles look elsewhere, anticipate the names of Rashid, Russell, Williamson or even De Kock to feature in the conversation of the team.
Already marketed: Jos Buttler (wicketkeeper-batsman), Saqib Mahmood (fast bowler), Matt Parkinson (spinner)
Immediate demands: Opener, all-rounderthickness
The Originals have arguably the very very best T20 batsman of this modern era in their positions in Buttler.
But using England Test players put to feature only three group games at The Hundred, also Mahmood and Parkinson just setting out into their fledgling international professions, the Old Trafford side can do with a few star power to sell tickets around.
The first place they’ll likely try to find that is in the batting area, so whoever of Gayle, Warner, Smith, Russell, De Kock or even Williamson is still available with the No 6 choice, anticipate Manchester to quickly snap up them.
Alternatively, they can appear to Australia and Glenn Maxwell or Aaron Finch – both of whom have amazed at Old Trafford earlier, Maxwell for Lancashire and Finch from these for Yorkshire. An even larger wildcard shout could be the winner that is evergreen a continuing T20, Shane Watson.
Already marketed: Rory Burns (batsman), Eoin Morgan (batsman/captain), Dan Lawrence (batsman)
Immediate needs: All-rounder, spinner
The Spirit have three batsmen in their group , in addition to a clear selection for captain at England’s World Cup-winning skipper Morgan.
Morgan gave a hint as to the way he’d look to build a white-ball group when previously covering the IPL to get Sky Sports, saying:”All-rounders are crucial for winning the IPL. That’s where I would begin.” If that is indeed where he would start, search to get Russell or Bravo into line-up in Lord’s.
Alternatively, it could be twist which Spirit identify early on, with Morgan adding:”The trend at the moment is about spinners, especially leg-spinners – look at the T20 positions of top 10 bowlers, it is full of mystery spinners.”
Rashid along with Sunil Narine were both collections in Morgan’s fantasy IPL XI, therefore could be ancient picks, as may Afghanistan off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who amazed at Lord’s earlier this summer at the Vitality IPL.
Already allocated: Chris Woakes (all-rounder), Moeen Ali (spinner/all-rounder), Pat Brown (seam bowler)
Immediate needs: wicketkeeper, Opener, all-rounder
Moeen’s selection to combine the Woakes way the draft is started by Birmingham marginally.
Moeen’s selection usually means the Phoenix forego among the first-round draft picks – the Invincibles and Spirit suffer the identical fate due to Roy and Morgan, respectively – but Birmingham have the additional blow of choosing closing of the eight sides.
By their No 8 pick a great deal of the big names will already be off the board, even though that is not to say there will not be some gems available to them. De Kock is only one that will cover their hunt for an explosive opener near the top of a wicketkeeper and the purchase.
Additionally, an all-rounder or spinner will likely be high on their schedule with the worry that Moeen may be back as a permanent figure of the England team by the summertime, therefore West Indian trio Russell, Bravo and Narine – that will all be volatile with the bat, also – may be options.
The Hundred Draft – Live will soon be displayed on Sky Sports Cricket, Main Event & Sky One from 7pm on Sunday. It will also be accessible through Sky Sports’ Facebook and YouTube stations, as well as live on the Sky Sports program and streamed on skysports.com.
