Katie Taylor can develop into a world winner when she struggles Christina Linardatou for its WBO super-lightweight belt on November 2, live on Sky Sports.
The Irish superstar has been crowned as the undisputed lightweight winner after a hard-fought win over Delfine Persoon in June and currently targets a domain in a higher weight class at Manchester Arena, with Anthony Crolla’s farewell battle and Joshua Buatsi’s WBA light-heavyweight title eliminator from Blake Caparello.
Taylor is currently relishing her WBO title battle at the event and fully plans to cement her status as the world’s greatest female fighter in the near future.
“I had a number of my early pro fights at the Manchester Arena and to return in November and headline a card a couple years on is beautiful,” said Taylor.
“It’s played host to a big nights in boxing background so I’m honoured to be a part of the tradition.
“It’s a new challenge at a new weight and something I’m really excited about. I feel like I have much left to achieve in the sport and becoming a two-weight world champion is one of these goals.
“There are still numerous huge battles out there for me like the Amanda Serrano struggle, a rematch with Delfine Persoon plus a struggle with Cecilia Br??khus but the very first aim is November 2 and winning yet another domain.
“I really don’t have some problems making lightweight so I believe I could move smoothly between the 2 weights. I want to drive myself and Christina is an excellent world champion, so it will be a huge test for me.”
But Linardatou, with only 1 loss and 12 wins, believes she could inflict a first defeat on Taylor.
“I intend on leaving England with my title,” she explained. “If I need to knock on Katie Taylor outside in order to keep the name, that is what I’ll do.”
Mancunian Crolla yields to the scene of his biggest victory, a stoppage win to earn the WBA lightweight belt at November 2015, earlier this season after falling short against unified winner Vasiliy Lomachenko and also the 32-year-old will have one struggle.
Buatsi stopped Ryan Ford in seven rounds at The O2, but should be given a sterner challenge against Australian Caparello, a former world title challenger, who has shared the ring with Sergey Kovalev and Andre Dirrell.
Felix Cash also defends his Commonwealth middleweight title and Gamal Yafai may take another step towards a significant name in the featherweight division.
“I’m so happy to be back in Manchester for this enormous show,” explained Matchroom Boxing boss Eddie Hearn.
“Katie Taylor is now established among the largest stars on the planet boxing and she bids to make more history by becoming a multi-weight world winner with hard WBO super-lightweight champion Christina Linardatou.
“Hometown hero Anthony Crolla rolls the dice one more time that he takes a part in his final battle in the game in the stadium that has functioned many epic poem Anthony Crolla nights.
“The stabilisers are off for Joshua Buatsi because he takes a massive step up against demanding Australian Blake Caparello at a WBA world title eliminator and there’s a brilliant domestic middleweight clash between Commonwealth champ Felix Cash along with English champ Jack Cullen.
“There is plenty more under those four fights on what’s going to be a massive night of boxing”
Adam Smith, Head of Sky Sports Boxing, said:”We’re absolutely thrilled to be showing the very greatest female boxer in the world back on Sky Sports with this enormous show. This is just yet another major test for Katie Taylor because the lightweight champion takes on all comers and continues to cement her legacy in the game.
